Global Heritage Review 2012 Vol 3
2012 has been another great year for conservation and community development at GHF project sites around the world, including clearing ancient underground drainage canals and planting endemic plants to increase structural stability at Chavin de Huantar in Peru and helping the Pingyao City Municipality in China to establish a Preservation Incentive Fund giving grants to residents of traditional courtyard houses in order to preserve the historical character of the ancient town.

The Banteay Chhmar Community Based Tourism Brochure has been updated to include current service pricing and festival dates and is currently being printed for free distribution to tourists who visit Banteay Chhmar. The brochure also gives information on the history of the Banteay Chhmar Temple Complex, available tourist services and local festival descriptions, while the back side of the brochure includes a detailed map of tourism service locations and historical points of interest.

At a luncheon in New York City on October 15th, Han Li, Manager of GHF's China Heritage Program, took a break from directing the preservation of Pingyao – one of China's most important ancient cities – to accept a 2012 Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award for Preservation awarded to honor GHF's conservation work there.

Pingyao Courtyard
Following up on her widely cited summary of harm to Syria's cultural heritage in the current conflict titled "Damage to the Soul," past Global Heritage Preservation Fellow and GHN Intern Emma Cunliffe has prepared an update on damage and destruction at the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country and again published the report on GHN.
