Home to the Largest Ziggurat in the World

One structure in need of sustainable preservation techniques to reverse previous inappropriate methods.

Training in site conservation and tourism management will be provided to the local communities, while the creation or updating of site interpretation panels and/or the production of a visitors’ guidebook will allow tourists to gain the most from their visit.

The involvement of the local Al-Ghazzi tribes is vital to the success of the projects.  Visitors to the site should be encouraged to visit the current near by settlements by encouraging the folkloric hand crafts typical for that region.  The construction of tourist stores and exhibition stores to sell these products should occur in these settlements.  The local inhabitants can enjoy the facilities established in the city and the site by directly involving them in the construction and operation of these facilities, which will bring them monetary gain.  Cultural, artistic, folkloric, scientific festivals are also expected to be conducted year round at the site for the benefit and enjoyment of both local communities and visitors.
