| GHF is implementing our high priority 2005 Stage III heritage preservation work that was identified in the Stage II Kars Historic Ottoman District Master Conservation Plan (MCP). This plan was developed in partnership with the Kars Municipality and Anadolu Kultur, a regional NGO supporting cultural programs and artistic production across Anatolia. Stage III is focused on (1) preservation of Kars' existing Ottoman heritage, (2) revitalization of living culture in the Caucus region around Kars to create a new magnet for international and Turkish tourism for long term sustainable economic and cultural development in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. |

| GHF provided critical funding and expertise for conservation of Izborsk, Russia’s oldest fortress (5th Century) enabling completion of scientific restoration of the Main Gate and Tower of this critically endangered monument. GHF funding also enabled preparation of the UNESCO World Heritage nomination and Master Conservation Plan for Izborsk Fortress and Great Pskov, one of the greatest and under served Russian Heritage centers. |
