Guatemala Proposes a Binational Park.

This past Monday President Alvaro Colom emphasized the development projects of the new Guatemalan government with Mexico to take advantage of the proximity of the two nations.

In his first speech after his inauguration as President of Guatemala for a four-year period 2008 - 2012, the Social Democrat, Colom, explained the interest of his government in realizing a project in the archaeological, tourism, and conservation fields near the border area with Mexico.

In this remote eastern region of Libya, where the bleak hills resemble a lunar landscape, the Green Mountain Sustainable Development Area is the latest in a spate of recently announced projects that form a sort of environmental coming-out party for this former pariah country.
Fleets of white Mercedes vans ferried guests along newly paved roads for a lamb dinner among the ruins and a signing ceremony presided over by Saif al-Islam el-Qaddafi, eldest son of the Libyan leader, Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi.

The citadel of Banteay Chhmar was commissioned by the 12th Century Khmer King Jayavarman VII (AD 1181-1219) in honour of four army generals, and his son, the Crown Prince Indravarman. These five men were killed defending the Khmer Empire against the Champa Kingdom, located in what is now Vietnam.
