Global Heritage Fund is dedicated to preserving and protecting endangered UNESCO World Heritage sites located in developing countries around the world. These Cradles of Civilization are under tremendous pressure from unplanned development, neglect, encroachment and environmental destruction. The long-term existence of mankind's last remaining world heritage sites is severely threatened.

GHF in the field - Click here for Mirador Basin National Monument GHF has secured a Goldman Fund Grant of $315,000 for the new Mirador Basin Park Service at this incredible Mayan Cradle of Civilization. This grant is the catalyst for renewed effort in establishing the proposed 525,000 acre Wilderness and Archaeological Park. Recent milestone include the completed conservation of four El Mirador Preclassic and Classic sites: Cascabel, La Muerta and LaFlorida. Boeing-designed UV polycarbonate has been used to protect and preserve crumbling monumental Preclassic sculpture in the archaeological zone. Advocacy efforts continue to urge UNESCO to designate Mirador Basin as a World Heritage Site.

GHF in the field - Click here for Lijiang Ancient Town Using GHF’s Preservation by Design methodology, GHF has partnered with local stakeholders to complete a comprehensive Master Conservation Plan (MCP) for Lijiang. The GHF-sponsored MCP and conservation efforts are reversing the destruction of the 1,000-year-old Lijiang Ancient Town. GHF co-funding with the government of China and Lijiang Ancient Town residents will authentically restore two hundred Naxi family residences, and help preserve Lijiang’s core protected area.

GHF in the field - Click here for Chavín de Huántar GHF is sponsoring local community involvement in the conservation of Chavín de Huántar to ensure long-term preservation of this exciting new archaeological destination. GHF has tripled the budget for Chavín conservation, supporting two years of salaries for a new 10 person Chavín conservation team and providing professional conservation training inTrujillo. Recent work at the site has included conservation of the Main Circular Plaza and New Town complexes. Emergency intervention measures were recently needed to protect ancient sites that lay in the path of roadway construction.

GHF in the field - Click here for Asif Khan Tomb At this newly-designated GHF Project, GHF has recently completed a historic and archaeological survey and treatment analysis for Asif Khan Tomb, located in Lahore’s Jahangir Complex. This beautiful monument was built by Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan, renowned for constructing India’s most famous monument, the Taj Mahal. GHF also convened an expert Committee of leading archaeologists and historic architects to finalize the procedure for authentically restoring the white marble dome, engraved sandstone walls, and mosaic tile alcoves.
